In the present-day global business environment, conducting business in Rotuma and beyond presents unique challenges due to the numerous regulatory requirements that both businesses and jurisdictions must adhere to. Ensuring the legality and transparency of corporate operations, as well as securing the necessary documentation, permits, and licenses, remains of paramount importance.

To foster a robust culture of compliance within the sector, regulated entities operating under the jurisdiction of Rotuma must ensure that their personnel receive comprehensive training and that stringent procedures are in place to identify and mitigate risks associated with money laundering, financial crime, terrorist financing, and gaming addiction.

Our Legal Support division is proud to highlight that Rotuma has never been included on any blacklist issued by the OECD or the European Union. This achievement is a testament to our proactive approach and steadfast commitment to a strong anti-money laundering culture within the financial services sector.

We adhere to international best practices and have actively participated in key global forums, including the Pan-African Network Conference on Fighting Illicit Financial Flows in Africa and the peer review process for the International Monetary Fund’s "Detailed Assessment Report on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism." Our division has successfully implemented the majority of the recommendations outlined in the U.S. government’s 2009–2017 Money Laundering and Financial Crimes Assessment. Additionally, we regularly disseminate the United Nations 1267 Sanctions Committee's consolidated list to all licensed entities to ensure compliance. While regulatory challenges have arisen in the past, recent years have seen significant improvements, strengthening communication channels and regulatory frameworks—enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement and compliance operations. At R.I.S.A., we maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies worldwide. For any inquiries, please contact us at alu@fsarotuma.org .

R.I.S.A. actively collaborates with stakeholders within our sovereign jurisdiction to ensure full compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards. In 2020, R.I.S.A. initiated a large-scale consultation exercise known as R.I.S.A. 2050, aimed at drafting progressive legislation to shape the future of our financial services industry for the next three decades.
